The Hyatt

Everett and I were so furtunate to get to spend 3 days at The Hyatt, Huntington Beach last week courtesy of my employer. My company CEP puts on 2 conferences per year. The locations vary, but they are always all expenses paid and so much fun! They have multiple speakers each day on topics relevant to emergency medicine and to our company. They even provide child care through an amazing company called kiddie corp....so you have no excuse no to attend! (But they don't check attendence, do they Kristine?!) My company is all about "wellness" these days and they are doing whatever they can to help keep their employees happy and healthy. So day #2 of the conference was actually a beach day complete with free surf lessons. After getting cleaned up, I dropped Everett off at kiddie corp (which was in a banquet room at the Hyatt) and headed to the awards ceremony for some free drinks! Last year Arrowhead Regional Medical Center was named ER of the year. This was an amazing award for us that recognized all the hard work we had been doing. So needless to say, we did not win any awards this year! But quite a few PAs and Docs were awarded for 10 years of service...which is amazing! Day #3 I got my blood drawn for the first time in a long time. Our company knows that PA's and MD/DO's don't ever go the doctor. So they sent up blood draw stations with whatever tests you need, free of charge, and mail the results directly to you for interpretation. And then you can write your own prescription to fix all your problems!
Day #3 was also the day that Jeremy was able to join us...and I was SO thankful! Being a single parent in a tiny hotel room is quite difficult, so we were both relieved to see him. We swam at the pools including a very clever 1 foot deep kid pool, and we went down the waterslides. It was a great conference at the perfect location! Thanks CEP! Everett eating sand... Water fun, a clown, and some rock-n-roll!

This weekend we had a Rockin’ good time at Everett’s rock themed birthday parties! We started off the weekend with a children’s party for all of Everett’s friends. A clown painted tattoos and made balloon space guns (?) while other kids (and dads) slid down the inflatable waterslide. Everett had a great time until we made him eat cake! I think he was just sad that his party was almost over! And maybe making him eat cake three times that week may have had something to do with all the gagging and crying! The next day we hung out with family for the perfect ending to the perfect weekend. Jeremy and I later opened all of Everett’s amazing gifts. We are so lucky to have such wonderful friends and family! Thanks to everyone who helped us celebrate Everett’s 1st Birthday!!

Happy Birthday Everett!

One year ago today, my baby boy was born and our world was turned upside down. And I wouldn’t change it for anything! I was 40 weeks pregnant and at my doctor’s appointment when the decision to induce was made. I hadn’t made any progress as far as dilating and contractions go, and my baby was getting bigger and bigger. My doctor’s felt it would be best to set up an appointment for induction in a week and if I still had not progressed then we would go ahead with it. So on September 2nd at 5am (and 41weeks) I showed up to San Antonio Community expecting to have a baby by that night. As I would soon find out, nothing ever goes as expected when you are a mom. My induction began and nothing happened. All of my family were visiting and anxiously awaiting the arrival of our baby boy. My brother had even taken the night off work to meet his first nephew. But my stubborn little boy was not ready to be born. After a day and a half long induction, Everett Dillon was born at 7:36pm on Wednesday September 3rd. He weighed 8 pounds and was 20 inches long. He was the most adorable thing I had ever seen! He had lots of brown hair and big dark blue eyes. He had the sweetest, softest cry and big pouty lips. Jeremy and I were in love!
The next few months are a blur. I don’t really remember much of them, but we have lots of pictures! I had 4 months off of work and then started back very slow working only 1 or 2 days a week for the next few months. Jeremy also had a full 6 weeks off, so we got a lot of bonding time with our new little man. Life as a parent has been amazing. My little boy has made me so happy and our lives have been forever changed.
Today he is so much fun and changing every minute. He walks (runs) everywhere, puts everything in his mouth, and has to touch everything. His new hobby is rearranging all of our furniture. He also loves to shake his head “no” and laugh every time I tell him not to do something. He is a daredevil and loves to be thrown in the air or spun in circles. He likes spinning anything that will move and loves all kinds of motion. He loves his blankie and sucking his thumb. He is a great baby and follows his daily routine so well. He even goes to bed every night without any help from mom or dad and without crying. He is just amazing and I love him more everyday!
So happy 1st birthday little boy! We are so proud of all your accomplishments this year and are so thrilled that you are in our lives! We love you!
